Felt Crafts - DIY Geometric Coasters

View in gallery Materials you'll demand for felt craft:
- 3mm thick felt, in the colors of your choice. I went for neutrals – light greyness, night greyness and natural.
- Cork tiles (these ones are 6mm thick)
- Plain cardstock
- Arts and crafts glue, the really tacky kind
- Scissors
- Utility knife
- Cut mat
- Straight-edge ruler
- Ballpoint pen
Step by step procedure to craft the felt coasters:
View in gallery In lodge to brand the diamond shapes out of felt, yous need to create a template first. I had to practice some basic geometry to work out the numbers, merely if you mark the cardstock like and then, you can save yourself the math.
(NB: These figures are in metric, considering this cut mat is. Sorry, imperial-using readers!)
- Cut a 3.5cm-wide strip off the cardstock. Length doesn't matter.
- Marker 4cm intervals on each side of the strip, BUT – marker a 2cm interval on i side only before marking the 4s. Draw connecting lines to the base of each mark, every bit shown above, and the diamonds will get credible.
- Using the knife and straight-border, cut the diamonds apart.
- Measure and cut a 3.5cm-wide strip of felt, using a pen and scissors. (Tip: One time you cut one strip, you can use it to measure more of them.)
- Identify one of the cardstock diamonds on top of the felt, upper and lower edges aligned, firmly pinched between your pollex and forefinger. Carefully cut forth the other two edges with pair of scissors.
- Echo until you have enough diamonds in each color. 24 diamonds full = iv coasters.
View in gallery Cork is much easier to cut than felt, and so I'm less exacting when cutting the initial shapes. Lay and conform the felt pieces, on top of the cork, in the design that you'd like. Trace the arrangement with a pen and then cut the shape out with your pocketknife.

Mucilage the diamonds into place with tacky craft glue, let dry out, and then advisedly utilise the knife to trim off whatever rough/overhanging cork edges.
View in gallery All washed! These felt coasters are ready to rock. The final trim of the cork base of operations left them looking very tidy, and the felt and cork both are thick enough to feel substantial.
